Square Macedonia
Macedonia Square is the main square of Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. It was build between 1920 and 1940. It is located in the central part of the city, and it crosses the Vardar River. It's 18,500 m2 in total.
In the middle of the square is the high monument of Aleksandar the Great under which is a grand fountain. On the sides of the square there are many other monuments and statues of important people from the Macedonian history, such as, the monuments of Dame Gruev and Goce Delcev, Justinian I, king Samuil, Metodija Antonov - Cento and Dimitrija Cupovski.
The square is connected with the Old part of Skopje (The Old Bazar) with the Stone Bridge. The other side of the square is connected through Street Macedonia with the Old Railway Station, which was partly destroyed by the earthquake in 1963, and now in it is the City of Skopje Museum.
