Our project
"The place where I live - we investigate its past"
Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia and it lies in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, The city is the administrative, cultural, economic and academic centre of the country. But it's also a city with a 2000 years old tradition. Skopje has been occupied by many different people in the past. The evidence of this are the several Byzantine churches and monasteries around the city, also a few Roman sites, such as Scupi and Skopje's Aqueduct. However, the group that left the greatest mark on Skopje were the Ottomans. The Ottomans ruled Macedonia for hundreds of years and built a large number of mosques and other buildings.
All of these reasons inspired us to start our project in order to investigate it's past.
Our project was divided into four main locations: in the classroom (where we used referents books, posters and internet to do our research, collaborated with each other and shared our learning with each other and with other students in our school), at home (where we did most of our online research and did our presentations and other activities), the local environment (where we did our field trips to museums and landmarks, as well as interviews with older people in order to find out more about our city's past) and finally online (where we used our educational platform Edmodo, to communicate with each other, share ideas and solutions, give each other support and feed back on our work).
On the pages of this website you will find all of our works that we did during our projects. Through our presentations, videos, posters and photos you will be able to find out a bit more about Skopje's history. The pages of the website classify the major landmarks of our city and give a better insight of their past.
We had a great time doing our project and we learned so much new things during the process. So we invite you to take the tour around the pages of this website and see our presentations.
Finally we invite you to fill in our Contact form or write a comment on our Blog and give us your view of our project. Your feedback is very important to us and it will help us with our future projects.
