Museum of Macedonian fight for independence
The Museum of Macedonian fight for independence (Museum of VMRO and Museum of the victims of the communist regime) is a specialist museum with a complex museum exhibition that connects the modern Macedonian state with its historic, cultural and revolutionary traditions, in which the roots of over a century long struggle of the Macedonian people for creation of their own national state on the Balkan are presented. Through the museum exponents one can see the historic struggles that the Macedonian people went through in order to fulfil their vision of freedom, the primary idea of the Macedonian revolutionary fight for liberation and unity of Macedonia and creation of independent Macedonian state.
In the museum there are 109 wax figures, 16 art paintings – portraits of the most famous Macedonian revolutionaries and intellectuals, 80 art paintings – scenes of important events from the Macedonian revolutionary past, reconstruction models, maps, original items (documents, photographs newspaper articles, brochures, albums and other) and weapons ( swords, pikes, revolvers, guns, binoculars and other).
The Museum of VMRO presents the history of the Macedonian revolutionary fight, from its beginning in the middle of the XIX century, until its dissolution of its activities in 1944, and the formation of the Macedonian state. A special mark is given to the Macedonian revolutionary movement as one of the most important periods of the Macedonian history. The museum exhibition is comprises of 12 departments, so called separate thematic units, chronologically listed, in which the history of the Macedonian revolutionary organization, with all its characteristics and activities, is shown.
The Museum of the victims of the communist regime is a continuation of the idea and fight of the Macedonian people for independence in the period from 1944 till 1991.

Due to the policy of the Museum, no pictures or filming are allowed inside the museum, except in the Hall, so the video shows only a very small part of the museum and its rich contents. We strongly recommend a visit to the Museum to everyone that come to visit our city.
